Saturday Showcase: Nomad (Steve Rogers)

As stated in my Year of the Shield Unboxing Video, Nomad is my focus for today's showcase.  I actually decided to span the next few Saturdays to discuss the character known as Nomad but I will focus on the Steve Rogers version for today.

The original Nomad is an alternate identity that Steve Rogers adopts after he abandons the Captain America persona.  In Captain America #180 (December 1974), Rogers becomes disillusioned with the United States government, when he discovers that a high ranking government official (heavily hinted to be the then President of the United States Richard Nixon) is the leader of the terrorist organization known as the Secret Empire.  He drops the Shield to fight for America sticking to his moral compass.

Rogers then decided to abandon his Captain America identity, feeling that he cannot continue to serve America after this latest discovery has shattered his faith in the nation's status. However, a confrontation with the Golden Archer (a disguised Hawkeye) forces Rogers to realize that he cannot abandon a life of heroism, and he subsequently takes on the name "Nomad" (as it means "man without a country") adopting a new dark blue and yellow uniform with no patriotic markings on it at all.

This identity is short-lived, with Rogers maintaining it for a mere four issues of the comic to varying degrees of success; he even trips over his own cape at one point.   (See Below)

It is when the Red Skull kills his Captain America replacement (Roscoe Simmons), that he understands that America needs Captain America more than they need the Nomad.  He drops the blue and yellow costume for the good ole red, white, and blue.  He promises himself he will be the best version of himself and the Captain as he can be and will not tolerate the injustices of this world.  He will do things his way no matter what the government has to say about his methods,  He just knows he can always get the job done with or without their support.

Saturday Showcase: Stegron, the Dinosaur Man

Stegron Vs the Lizard

It was a hectic 2020 and in my opinion, I didn't post enough. So, as the new year has arrived, I pledge to return to posting at least once a week.  I already have some interviews lined up for the near future as well as some film, TV, and book reviews.  Let us not waist anymore time, eh?  Today I am proud to announce the return of my Saturday Showcase.  The subject is none other than Stegron, the dinosaur man.  (One of my favorite villains from my childhood I must say.)

BIO:

As the story goes, Vincent Stegron was hired by S.H.I.E.L.D. to work with Dr. Curt Connors to study DNA of dinosaurs from the Savage Land. Inspired by the experiment that turned Connors into the Lizard, Stegron stole some dinosaur DNA and injected himself with it. In moments Stegron transformed into an orange semi-humanoid Stegosaurus-like creature. Besides a physical transformation, Stegron gained the ability to command real dinosaurs, which he planned to use them in his plans for conquest of the world and converting all of humanity into creatures like himself. Taking several dinosaurs with him from the Savage Land to New York City, he encountered Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Ka-Zar. (Marvel Team-Up #19-20)  During the battle that followed, Stegron was beaten by being knocked into a nearby river and believed to have died from drowning.

Months later, we find out he survived.  Stegron returned and forced Connors into helping him restore several dinosaur remains from a museum. Connors did what Stegron asked and accidentally turned into the Lizard. The two reptile-men clashed as Spider-Man arrived and later Stegron was sent into hibernation by the extremely cold temperatures the weather was producing. (Amazing Spider-Man #165-166)
