Comics You Should Be Reading: Kiss/Vampirella

Today's topic is a comic series I feel you should be reading.  The comic is KISS/Vampirella brought to us by Dynamite Press.  Right now only issue # 1 has hit the streets but it shows a lot of promise for a kick ass story.

As most of you know I am a huge KISS fan and look forward to their adventure in the comics.  This adventure takes place in 1974.  KISS has moved to Los Angeles to record their second album, Hotter Than Hell.  Vampirella has been fighting evil beings on Earth for 5 years now.  She is also in a band known as Witchcraft.  Little do the two bands know that their worlds are about to become one.

You see, it appears there is a cult that is using Rock 'N'Roll to acquire souls. Still the life right out of those in the business of making music.  Can Vampirella save us from this menace?  Will KISS make it out alive?  Who knows, you may think you know, but no one truly knows.  I have only read issue #1 but it shows a lot of promise in direction.  I give the KISS/Vampirella series a strong 8 out of 10 stars so far.  As I read more, I will add more to this post.

Until next time, get your READ on!

KISS Forever- A Comic Review

For those of you who don't know, I am a child of the '70's, so to say I am a KISS is an understatement.  I am one of many original KISS fans.  What's this got to do with comics you ask?  Well, the art form of comics have kept the 4 characters that make up KISS alive and well for the past few decades.  Sure they still make music now and then, but comics keep the Myths that is KISS alive and well.  I mean where else are you going to get an illustrated story about the Catman or Demon?

KISS Forever is a 48 page comic published by Dynamite telling a small tale from the lives of these 4 brothers.  Brothers who are immortal and have had dealings with mankind since the dawn of man.  Chapter 1, goes back to the time of prehistoric man and their ways of hunting to provide food for their clan.  So, naturally this story involved the Catman.

In Chapter 2, we are in Ancient Rome and it is a time where traditional Romans wanted the days of old to return, so they made a deal with the gods of death to purify Rome, only to release Doom across the streets of Rome.  It was up to the Demon to set things right.  History would blame this destruction as Rome burned on Emperor Nero of course.

Chapter 3 stars a Captain of the 7 seas looking for his soul that was trapped in the star stone.  Once he claims it, he can break free of his curse.  I wonder whose soul was in the STAR stone.  HMMMMM?

Finally in Chapter 4, we are introduced to the Starman as he has to interfere in the Apollo 13 mission to prevent the crew from finding a metamorphic change on the Moon's surface.  Anyone who has studied history knows that the brave men of Appolo 13 made it back home safely after their rocket had a technical malfunction causing them to abort their mission.

The writing of KISS Forever is solid and the artwork is beyond phenomenal! If you are a KISS fan, you will love the book.  If you are a comic fan who loves great writing as well as fantastic artwork, you to, will love this book.   I give this comic a strong and perfect rating of 10 out of 10 stars.  Do yourself a favor and pick up your copy today.  Until next time, get your READ on!

Wanna Wrestle? G.L.O.W. Spotlight - Tina Ferrari

The above image is that of one Lisa Moretti.  She is a very popular women's wrestler who got her start in an organization known as G.L.O.W.  Her ring name was Tina Ferrari.   She was a multiple champion for the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling organization but you may remember her best by her other persona that won her championships in the WWE known as Ivory.

Yes, Tina and Ivory are one in the same.  G.L.O.W. wrestlers do not get the respect they should have for setting the landscape to allow women's wrestling to be successful.  I just posted my review of the new Netflix series G.L.O.W. over and Somewhatnerdy,  To read it, please click here - G.L.O.W. Review .  I feel that it is about time that someone told the tale, sure the show maybe a work of fiction for the most part, but where it counts is all truth.  I mean, it was a struggle to get the women equal billing in wrestling, any fan knows that.  I am just glad that G.L.O.W. is finally getting recognized the way it should.  I do hope that in the next season, we see some of the regulars from the glory days featured in an episode or two.  Until then, enjoy this match of Tina Ferrari taking on Manna the Headhunter in this classic G.L.O.W. match.

Star Trek/Green Lantern: Stranger Worlds

The following is a review of the successful crossover between DC Comics and IDW.  The reason I say it was successful is because this is actually the second time they crossed over.  I am talking of course about the Star Trek/Green Lantern cross over event Stranger Worlds.  If you have not read it yet, read on at your own risk...there are spoilers!

We began this journey with the first installment known as the Spectrum War (2015).  All the Lantern Corps were "transported" to another dimension by one of the Guardians.  While trapped in this dimension, they made friends with the Captain Kirk and those friends/foes of the Federation.  The story ended with all the Corps uniting to defeat Nekron and his dead lanterns.

Well, we pick up the story 6 months from their arrival in this weird, yet familiar dimension.  The only problem is, without the power batteries, all of the lanterns rings are running out of power.  So, Hal and the others find themselves trying to adapt to their new surroundings while looking for this dimension's OA as well as the other batteries.

Long story short, they discover a man-hunter which gives Hal hope that they can find OA, or at least this dimensions version of it.  Well, they are not the only ones looking for power.  Atrocitus is looking for a source of rage to fuel his red ring, unfortunately he found it in the likes of a "prison" that housed the one and only Kahn.  I say unfortunately because Atrocitus is no more after his altercation with Kahn.  The other lanterns discover what had occurred, but it was too late.

Fast forward a couple of issues and all the power batteries are found and an all out war breaks out,  The guardians of this dimension help Kirk achieve the power to wear the ring in which he uses it to take on Kahn and Sinestro.  All is won and the lanterns are looking forward to finding their way home.  Hal does however want to show Kirk a section of space that they need to explore.  A system with a RED sun.  Hmmm, could this be the next cross over event?

I only gave a "cliff notes version" of the story because I want you to pick this up for yourself to enjoy.  If you cannot find all 6 issues at a comic book store or eBay, make sure to pick up the trade when it is available.

I have been enjoying the cross over events with DC and IDW.  I hope that they continue.  I give Star Trek/Green Lantern: Stranger Worlds a solid 10 out of 10 stars.  The story was well written as well as drawn and was just a joy to read all together.

Until next time, get your READ on and unleash your inner NERD!
