Saturday Showcase: the Butcher

William J. Butcher aka the Butcher
I binge watched the Boys series on Amazon Prime TV yesterday and I just had to focus on the Butcher for this edition of Saturday Showcase.  For those of you who don't know, the Boys is a comic written by Garth Ennis and first hit the shelves in 2006.  Fast Forward 13 years and the Boys is now a hit TV series found only on Amazon Prime TV.

Who are the Boys?  Well, the Boys are a Black Ops team that's main mission is to keep the "Supes" in check.  The leader of the Boys goes by the alias the Butcher.  All members of the Boys have something against super heroes, but the Butcher's heart is filled with hate from his experiences.  This hatred fuels his desire to see all "supes" dead, which makes him the perfect candidate for leading this motley crew.

Karl Urban as the Butcher
Karl Urban's portrayal of the Butcher is spot on in my book.  One might ask themselves why would a man feel so much hatred for "Heroes"?  But when you find out William's life story, you can understand.  The "Supes" screwed him over and now it's his turn to do the same.

The show and the comics have similarities as well as differences, but what remains constant in both areas is that the Butcher is not one you want to mess with.
