Saturday Showcase: Razorback

 
It has been a while since I have done a Showcase post due to work.  Hell, the last ones I did were on Sunday instead of Saturday, but now my schedule is clear to where I should be able to return to a somewhat regular schedule of Saturday Showcase posts.  With that said, I needed a post that packed a punch!  So, I decided to introduce you to a character I believe we could see make there appearance in the new hit series, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.  That character is Buford Hollis aka Razorback.

Buford Hollis, a muscular truck driver and costumed adventurer from Texarkana, Arkansas, was in New York looking for his younger sister Bobby Sue who had joined a religious cult.  This cult was led by the villainous Man-Beast (disguised as the Hate-Monger).   During this struggle, Buford would develop a lifelong ally with the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.  The Man-Beast put up one hell of a fight, coming close to killing Spidey and Razorback on several occasions.  In the long run, our heroes won and Bobby Sue was saved. [Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #13-15]

Another one of Buford's adventures would have him team up with the sensational She-Hulk to stop the galactic villain known as Xemnu.  He was not alone when the two heroes joined forces.  Buford's original companion was Taryn O'Connell, a female truck driver, who spends some time searching for Razorback before he arrived in his oversized rig. They team up and use the rig itself to hijack NASA's experimental faster-than-light spacecraft, the Star Blazer. 

Their purpose is to find Taryn's lover, Ulysses Solomon Archer, who had left for deep space several years prior, establishing himself as a space trucker. They arrive (with She-Hulk as a stowaway, thanks to Mister Fantastic's assistance) only to discover that Archer had already married Mary McGrill, a woman who had traveled into space with him. Razorback assists She-Hulk and Archer in defeating Xemnu the Titan, who intended to transform Archer and Mary's as-yet-unborn child into a member of his own species. With the help of the She-Hulk's persuasion, NASA soon realizes that Razorback, with his mutant skill allowing him to drive anything, is the perfect pilot for their craft, and allows him and U.S. Archer to remain in space aboard the Star Blazer with NASA's approval. Taryn joins Buford on his travels, having fallen in love with him. Star Blazer is renamed the Big Pig III, which Razorback calls all his vehicles.  Razorback and Taryn eventually return to Earth. Another reason I chose to do a post on Razorback is the fact that he is included in the upcoming Marvel Legends Amazon Exclusive Spider-Man Pack (Pack will also include Silvermane, the Human Fly, Molten Man, and a unique symbiote Spider-Man).

Talking Toys: A look inside the minds of the Nacelle Company

 

I am excited about this latest interview I have for you.  For those of you who have been following me, you may remember when I interviewed  Brian Volk-Weiss for the Netflix series The Toys That Made Us for the site Somewhatnerdy.  Well, because of the contacts I made during that interview, I was able to get an interview with the Nacelle Company about their newly announced toy division.  I hope you enjoy this edition of Talking Toys.

DERF:  May I ask, what is your name and what is your position at the Nacelle Company?

What projects may we know the Nacelle Company from?

The Toys That Made Us, The Movies That Made Us (Netflix) Behind the Attraction (Disney+), Down To Earth (Netflix), The Center Seat (History Channel), A Toy Store Near You (Amazon Prime)

Because of my past interviews with CEO Brian Volk-Weiss, I was lucky enough to get an email discussing the launch of your toy division.  What led to this development?

An evolution of the pop-culture brand established by Nacelle Company through shows such as The Toys That Made Us and A Toy Store Near You.

I also received an email discussing the Nacelle Toy Stores of the World Passport.  I think it is a cool concept.  For those who may not have heard about your World Passport system, please briefly explain how it works.

The Toy Store Passport Program connects toy stores across the world by offering customers the chance to buy a passport booklet at any participating store, and receive a unique store specific passport stamp from every Passport Program store they visit.

Will there be any online stores available?  Like a unique transparent sticker stamp that you could place in your passport when the product arrives.

In doing my research for this article, I discover that you are working with Super 7 and Funko for some projects.  What projects might we have seen and not realized had the Nacelle Company involvement?

The Emerald City Comic Con exclusive Great Garloo Funko Pop was the first of many planned collaborations between Nacelle and companies such as Funko, Super7, etc. 

I also read, that you gained rights to Robo Force and Power Lords, when can we except to see items from these brands?

Wave 1 of our Robo Force action figure line will be up for pre-order later this Spring. Expect to find these figures available at many of your favorite online and physical retailers. Expect to see first looks at our new Power Lords action figure line later this year, along with other exciting toy-lines yet to be announced!

I cannot wait, Power Lords and Robo Force were some of my favorite toys as a child.  Has the Nacelle Company acquired anymore licenses or rights to other projects since your last announcement?

Saturday Showcase: Tri-Klops

Tri-Klops Card Back from MOTU series

    I was very excited to see the Funko announcements a few weeks ago when I saw my favorite villain in the line-up for the latest Masters of the Universe line.
As you can tell from the title, that villain is the one and only Tri-Klops.  When I was a child, my must have He-Man villains were Beast Man, Trap Jaw, and Tri-Klops.  Tri-Klops was always my favorite out of the 3, so I decided I would do a post about how awesome this character is.  So, let's begin.

Alliance of Evil

BIO:

    Tri-Klops made his debut in the story, "The Terror of Tri-Klops!", which introduces him as a near-match for He-Man in terms of strength, summoned by Skeletor when he decides he needs a new warrior to take on He-Man.   He is a skilled hunter, swordsman, and spy.  He is very resourceful as a spy given that his helmet enables him to see all around him and thus be able to spot all attacks from behind.  Tri-Klops is also suggested to be a very cunning and formidable warrior.

    In the animated cartoons, Tri-Klops is an inter-dimensional bounty hunter and swordsman who can see in any direction. His eyes, which are on a rotating visor around his head, have different abilities in different versions; one common ability is the power to see through solid objects. He is also able to see in the dark and over long distances with his Night-vision and Dista-vision eyes. Tri-Klops wears the "Gammavision" ever since he was blinded in an accident. In both the 1983 and 2002 cartoons, his eyes can also shoot energy bolts, although this is not commonly used in other material. A well-known classic villain of the MOTU line, Tri-Klops was one of Skeletor's chief henchmen, stoic and obedient, and was frequently featured in the Filmation cartoon.

Saturday Showcase: Footloose

    Today's showcase comes from my childhood and all the adventures I had in my backyard playing with my elite force of soldiers known as G.I. Joe as they stopped the terrorist organization known as COBRA.  One of my favorite Joes was Andrew "Footloose" Meyers.  As a toy, I loved his look but as a cartoon character I absolutely loved his personality.

    Footloose first made his appearance in 1985 when he was released in the great G.I. Joe action figure line.  He, like so many others, then debuted as a cartoon.  He was voiced by the talented Will Ryan.  Also back in '85, Andrew made his first appearance in the Marvel G.I. Joe series, issue #37, to be exact.

   Issue #37 is one of my favorite comic covers hands down, in the G.I. Joe series.

     I just explain my love for Footloose.  He was just one of my favorite characters from the series and I always felt he could have been used more.  He should have been featured better in the films and if they ever make another one, he better be in it.

    Needless to say, I was happy when I saw his 25th Anniversary figure when the Joes started hitting shelves again.  I was also ecstatic when I first saw his card in the G.I. Joe Battleground app. (BTW I wish that game was still around.)

Halo mini figures by Mega Bloks

I was in Walgreen's today getting some last minute Easter gifts when I noticed with my keen eye the word Halo.  I thought to myself, "What in the world would something of Halo be on the Easter aisle?"  Anyway, I picked the pack up and noticed it was a Mega Bloks mini figure pack.  Now, I am a LEGO man myself, but I couldn't pass getting a few to put on my blog.  Anyway, I bought three packs and brought them home.
As I was looking at the packs, I noticed that this is series 4.  Hell, I never knew they had a series 1.  I knew that Mega Bloks had Halo sets but I never knew that they went the mini figure route like LEGO.  Anyway, I opened up the packs and I didn't get any doubles.  (Which is always a good thing, LoL)
The figures I purchased include the Copper Covenant Brute, an Artic UNSC pilot, and a Blue Covenant Elite.  All in all I am pretty excited about my figures and plan to get more.  I would rate these figures a 7.5 to 8 out of 10.

Fun with Toys: Yo Joe!

Today's edition of Fun with Toys stars Leatherneck, Footloose, Zandar, Zarana, and Road Pig.

Zandar leads Zaran a and Road Pig to a rendezvous point with Zartan when he has the group stop and look for Joes. 

 "I could swear we are being followed. Pan out and look for anything suspicious." says Zandar

"Hold still Footlooose!", whispers Leatherneck.

"Phew, that was close!', exclaims Footloose

 

 

Zandar, Zarana, and Road Pig never leave.  So, Footloose gets a little anxious and stuns Road Pig with a tranquilizer round.  Hearing his fellow Dreadnok fall to the ground, Zandar immediately turns to see two joes with their weapons focused on him.  Who will win this battle?  Where is Zartan?  Are there more joes to be discovered?  You will have to wait and see.

Vengance, roll out!

I recieved the kick ass Wreck-Gar transformers as one of my Christmas gifts. I then thought to myself, what if  Wreck-Gar teamed with the Punisher and acted as his motorcycle? The possibilities are endless.

Firestorm Friday

I realize this Firestorm Friday post is late, but you will know why in a few.  Anyway, due to reasons that are personal, I was asked to watch my nephew and take him to the movies today.  Well, after the movies I took my nephew to McDonalds because I knew they started the Brave and the Bold line today.  Well, I went ahead and got me a Happy Meal as well and I am glad I did.  You see, the new toy line comes with 3 toys each meal.  And when I opened my meal to a wonderful surprise.  There was a Firestorm and Solomon Grundy in my meal.  I thought to myself, self this would make a good Firestorm Friday post.  The reason the timing is so late is because I had a hectic day and this was the first that I could share.  I wish the makers actually took the time to paint the Firestorm better, but hell I am just glad for the recognition he got to be made a Happy Meal toy to begin with.  Anyway, enough ranting, LOL.  I have included a pic so that you may see if you want to go to your nearest golden arches yourself.

Dungeons and Dragons Toy Surprise

Greetings readers, are there any DnD fans in the house?  Well, you will love this post. 

    In case you are not familiar, I started this blog after seeing the passion from fellow blogger Reis at his old blog, Geek Orthodox.  The site has since been taken down, but I loved what he did and therefore started my own.  Anyway, I sent Reis a couple of care packages filled with all kinds of toys. One was Vader themed and the other was Batman themed and he promised to take care of me one day.  Which he did ten fold.  You see, I tried to win a Warduke figure from him in one of his contests, but sadly I didn't.  But Reis knew I wanted one so, he found a deal on 4, yes 4 DnD figures including the bad ass himself, Warduke.  I was delighted at what my eyes had seen when I first opened the box.  It was like opening a treasure chest filled with gold as I was concerned. 

The four figures I recieved are:
